The trees grow fast crowding out other trees and produce masses of seed. I have quite a number of seedlings growing and have started planting them out. Red squirrels eat the seed and spotted woodpeckers use holes in the bark to bash peanuts to a pulp which they then carry away, presumably to feed their young.
