Millennium Yew Tree Project

Does anyone have a spare Millennium Yew tree?

The Conservation Foundation helped communities throughout the country to celebrate the year 2000 by distributing almost 8000 young yews propagated from ancient yews estimated at being 2000 years old.

Many were planted in churchyards, but the villagers of Colton, Norfolk chose to plant theirs in the centre of the village. However, the ownership of the land has recently changed, and the tree removed leaving behind its special commemorative plaque and certificate.

The villagers would like to replace their tree and plant it in St Andrew’s Churchyard where they think it will be safer for another millennium.

The Foundation has distributed all its millennium yews and so is appealing to anyone who may have a spare tree or one that needs a new home to help the parish of Marlingford and Colton restore its heritage tree.
